Anthony Ray Contreras

Thank you for visiting my website. In this site I show several of my other skills and interests besides photography and retouching old photographs, which I enjoy tremendously.  I have been drawing custom home plans for well over 30 years and several years ago added 3D rendering to my drawing skills. This allows me to help my customers to better visualize their construction projects. Just recently I have added drone imaging to my list of skill sets.

Please enjoy you journey through my website. Contact me if I can help you with any of the services I offer.

MY BACKGROUND

I was introduced to photography in the early 70’s shortly after graduating from high school. I bought my first film camera and eventually set up a small darkroom in my parents’ home in Tempe, Arizona. I would shoot primarily rolls of black & white 35 mm film with an occasional roll of color negative or slide film when I could afford it.

In the late 70’s and early 80’s I went to work for a photography company based in Scottsdale, AZ Arizona. My job was to photograph family groups in from various churches in the metropolitan Phoenix area, and around Arizona with occasional out of state bookings. It was high volume work at a hectic pace. I would have from 40 to 60 families to photograph in a 6-hour period, taking at least four to six images of each family group. The camera I used had the ability to create a black & white Polaroid picture simultaneously with a 70mm color negative with each click of the shutter. Immediately afterwards, the Polaroid images were given to a salesperson who would try to sell the portraits to each family. The company would then produce a booklet comprised of all the family portraits which served as a church yearbook. I decided to move on from this job after dreaming about posing families in my sleep.

I went on to work as a carpenter for 30 years and photography sadly fell by the wayside. I have worked for several small construction companies; this included remodeling homes, building cabinets and general carpentry. I was also the superintendent for one home builder and the foreman on a handful of commercial building projects.

A small town in Arizona hired me as their building inspector for a couple of years and because I have always had an interest in drawing, I began using AutoCAD for town projects. It was at this time I began to draw house plans for a few of the contractors I had worked with.

I moved to Colorado for five years to work for two different civil engineers. There I learned to draw plans for roads, housing subdivisions and commercial parking lots. Eventually I returned to Arizona where I continue to draw plans for several contractors and aid in planning projects for two of the local communities.

In 2001 I purchased a digital camera and returned to my hobby. Since then I have exhibited my work in a local restaurant, been feature in Arizona Highways Magazine’s on Facebook, and toured my work through the library system in southern Apache County. I’m honored that my photographs were chosen over 15 times for the Arizona Highways magazine “Friday Fotos” contest.

I am a FAA Part 107 certified commercial drone pilot. While I’m passionate about nature and still life photography, I have recently taken an interest in real estate and drone photography I am hopeful my commercial drone certificate will take my photography in new directions.
